"Priya Rama embodies the characteristics that I love to find in artists. First, her work is intensely original to her and only her. Second, she is able to capture the essense of our being which is evidenced in record sales. Third, everyone responds to her work and, further, they are mesmerized as their mind travels its own personal roads. Thank you to Marie Redfearn Smith in Cincinnati for introducing us!"

Artists gain creative inspiration from many sources. Unfortunately for Priya Rama, her source is the immense pain that she suffers from during one of her "migraine with aura" migraines. Priya captures her migraine visions on canvas for all to see creating intriguing abstract expressionist fine art and has thus become an activist for migraine awareness. Priya has received formal art education and training with a BFA in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MA in Visual Arts Education from the University of Cincinnati, and Doctoral Studies, ABD, Arts Administration, Education and Policy at The Ohio State University.
A chronic migraine sufferer, I ‘see’ hyperchromatic images inside my mind’s eye.
This is what I paint.
Painting slows my breathing and lets me turn inward. Time stops still and the separation between the inside and outside of my body no longer matters. Capturing these ephemeral images is at once energetic and meditative. I typically have many pieces in progress which take shape as I carry on an intuitive dialogue with myself.
My paintings highlight a spontaneous and personal mark-making. Color values, form, and textural strokes – hallmarks of my work – create movement, beckoning the eye to travel and linger within the space. In my work, I further probe identity, states of (well)being, and emotion." - Priya Rama
